How To Find Reading Level of a Book
By muslimteacher on Jan 20, 2008 in Language Arts (Grammar, Reading, Etc)
Today I worked along with some other volunteers to sort thru five huge boxes of donated books; we had to sort the books by grade. So, I thought it would be timely to explain how to determine the grade level of a book.
On the back of most books for young people are some numbers. If you see, for example, something that says “RL 2″ it means the Reading Level is for a second grader.
Some of the books we sorted had this number on the back and some did not. Sometimes the grade/age level was on the front of the book. Those were easy to sort. However, there were books which did not have those handy numbers on the front or back.
I have found a website that takes you step-by-step to finding out the reading level of books. Click here and read Reading Level of a Book and also read Find a Text’s Reading Level. Both are great sources of information.
I also encourage parents and teachers to go to this website Leveled Book Lists which is a list of popular children’s books sorted by grade.
